Featured Shed of the Week – Week of July 16, 2012
Karen had a very common scenario in her yard. She has a walk-out basement and a wide side yard that would be a perfect place to put a shed. The issue that comes with building a shed along a walkout is the slope of the yard. Typically it is not a problem to block level underneath a shed to make the floor level. But, in the case of a walkout basement it is not recommended to level the floor this way.
In Karen’s case we recommended having a retaining wall built around the shed. For the longevity of the building and from a practicality standpoint this was the best option.
The shed itself measures 8′ x 8′ and features 2 window packages and a set of 48″ double doors with windows. Karen requested that the wall against the house be built 10′ tall in order to get extra storage space higher up in the unit. We also built a 5′ x 8′ attic/shelf on the interior of the shed.
Complete with paint to match her home, Karen now has a functional storage shed placed in a part of her yard that was never used that looks great!
